Thanks to Swede & Bob B. the fencing and stock watering pipeline for managed grazing was complete this summer. Although Spring was late, the good pasture and hay crops were a welcome relief after 3 years of drought. Thanks to Leonard V. and Steve B. we had additional pastures for rotation of our breeding stock and market steers. All pastures went into winter with good carbohydrate stores for next spring.

Good Grazing!

The first batch of Plymouth Rocks ready in July average weight was 3.5 pounds and the second batch in November was 4.2 pounds. They both enjoyed good pasture this year and helped to fertilize the south paddock. The new hens saved from the first batch are now laying, even in the cold, 2 dozen eggs/day. Thanks to our regular customers who helped us through the pullet egg stage!

The ‘nanny goat-share’ program ended in May when Flossie lied about being pregnant. She was dried off to allow rest. If the Good Lord is willing, we MAY have fresh milk again by February. Flodemi MAY help by April or May. Am beginning to wonder about the buck goat, Milo, as to whether or not he knows his business. Hmm….In the meantime, Perk and I have lost the curl in our hair!
