The ancestors grew the great majority of food that fed their families and neighbors. This urge is so strong that Paul and I managed to grow at least some of our food in our own backyards during the 20 odd years of military service in all sorts of places. Here you see the 1992 tomato patch in a 10’ x 10’ back patio we were blessed to have in California. Paul grew his favorite peppers year-round in Maryland. And I was always abit uncomfortable with buying ‘fresh’ vegetables at the grocery. It’s true the soil has taken a beating from artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. But now, more than ever, we must remember the skills and natural knowledge of our ancestors and begin once again to restore the land to feed ourselves and our neighbors. The legacy lives...
